Synastry
Synastry lays two natal charts over each other and reads the aspects between one person's planets and the other's. It shows where two people flow easily, where they spark, and where they will need patience, and it complements the Porutham and Guna Milan used in Indian matching.
An inter-aspect is an angle between a planet in one chart and a planet in the other. Venus in one chart trine Mars in the other suggests natural attraction; the Moon conjunct the other's Sun suggests deep comfort; Saturn square the other's Moon can feel heavy until trust is built.
Each person's planets fall into houses of the other's chart. If your Venus falls in your partner's seventh house, they may see you as a natural partner; your Saturn in their tenth may make you a steadying force for their career.
The composite chart takes the midpoint of each pair of planets to make a single chart for the relationship itself. Its Sun shows the purpose of the bond, its Moon the emotional climate, and its Venus how affection is shared.
Astrologers look first at the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars and the Ascendant. Contacts between the two Moons describe daily ease; between Venus and Mars, attraction; between Mercury and Mercury, how you talk; and between Saturn and personal planets, commitment.
Porutham and Ashtakoota compare the Moon's Nakshatra and sign in the sidereal zodiac, and are the main tools families use for marriage. Synastry adds a picture of personality and communication. Using both gives a fuller view.
The report scores the main harmonious and challenging contacts, explains the five strongest of each, and describes the composite Sun, Moon and Venus in plain words.
Suppose one partner has the Moon in Cancer and the other has the Sun in Cancer within a few degrees. This is a classic sign of comfort: one feels understood, the other feels appreciated. If the same couple also has Mars in one chart square Mercury in the other, disagreements may flare quickly in conversation. The report would name both, the first as a strength to lean on and the second as an area where slowing down helps. Most relationships show a mix like this, and the value of synastry lies in knowing which is which.
Transits to the composite chart can mark important years for a couple, such as Jupiter crossing the composite Sun or Saturn crossing the composite Moon.
